Set some money aside to buy the LEGO Tallneck in South Africa

Last week LEGO announced something rather special in the form of an officially-licenced Tallneck from Horizon Zero Dawn / Horizon Forbidden West, and one local retailer has a listing for the set already.

That retailer is Kiddiwinks which has the Tallneck listed here.

The price is something South Africans have been waiting to hear and Kiddiwinks has it down for R1 379.

While we’re happy to see a price tag attached to the set, we don’t think this listing is final as that amount is likely an estimate based on international pricing.

This is what the Tallneck costs internationally, along with the Rand conversions at the time of writing:

  • €79.99 ≈ R1 374.88
  • £69.99 ≈ R1 444.28
  • US$79.99 ≈ R1 211.96
  • AU$129.99 ≈ R1 416.84
  • CA$99.99 ≈ R1 188.14

When looking at that pricing it’s important to remember two things: one is that some of the pricing – most notably for the US – does not include tax which makes comparisons unfair. The other is that South African pricing is usually in line with the Euro.

It’s at that Euro price that we can see that the Kiddiwinks price is closest to, which again leads us to believe that this is only temporary pricing.

The LEGO Tallneck set is scheduled for release in May and we should see more accurate local pricing as we get closer to that month. To be safe we’d recommend setting aside R1 500 in case the set is priced up from the overseas RRPs.

How much Tallneck are you getting for your money?

As we wait for an official price it’s worth remembering what comes in the box.

LEGO set 76989: Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck comes with 1 222 pieces and, when built, is rather large at 34 X 23 X 17 centimetres (height X width X depth).

Not only will owners build the titular Tallneck but also a Watcher and a substantial base to put them on. A minifigure of Aloy is also included.

“Build the ultimate LEGO® brick model (76989) of the most iconic Horizon machine in the Forbidden West: the Tallneck. Use clever building techniques to capture authentic details of this Communications Class machine, from its smooth, disc-shaped head to its long, slim legs. Display the Tallneck on a stand with brick-built Horizon landscape details, including a birch tree and rusty stoplight. A new-for-May-2022 Aloy minifigure with weapons, plus a Watcher figure with a choice of blue, yellow or red eyes, complete a striking centrepiece,” reads the official page on LEGO.com.

If you’re already reaching for the credit card in anticipation we can recommend the aforementioned Kiddiwinks store as a great place to buy LEGO in South Africa with great customer service that we’ve used in the past.

Other stores worth checking out are Importatoy, which has some of the fastest shipping and best prices in the country, and Great Yellow Brick. The latter choice here is the official online store for the LEGO brand stores in the country and offer some unique sets and free gifts exclusive to it.
