Bungie offers players a one-time name change later today

When Bungie launched Cross Play in 2021 it also introduced a new feature in Bungie Names.

With Destiny 2 available on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Stadia and players able to play on all three platforms, Bungie needed a way to unify these platforms so that whether you were JohnDoe on Stadia and SteamedHams on Steam, you would appear as one name while playing Destiny 2. As such, Bungie Names were born and players have been stuck with the names they had before the change took place.

The downside of this solution was that Bungie also dragged player names through a filter to remove offensive names. This meant that players who had an offensive name or a name with special characters (these were used on PC) that became offensive once those were removed were simply dubbed Guardian with a four number suffix.

Today, after many months of being known as Guardian, those players and indeed all players will be able to change their name, but only once.

Players will need to log into the Bungie.net website to do this but the good news is that if you don’t want to change your name right now, you can change it a later date as this offer doesn’t expire. It’s a rather small but important quality of life change.

The name change offer goes live at 19:00 once Hotfix 4.0.0.3 goes live. This hotfix will likely increase the drop rate of weapons from the Wellspring activity, as well as fix Rahool’s Ascendant Alloy bug.

On that, players will be able to buy two Ascendant Alloys from Rahool for the price of one. That’s a good deal and we recommend hoping onto the game at reset (19:00 CAT) to pick those up.

We’re sure there are a few more fixes in the pipeline for today and maybe players will get Tier 3 Deep Sight chest back. That’s unlikely, but we live in hope.
