COVID-19 in South Africa: 2nd March 2022

This week has seen a distinct increase in the number of people turning our to vaccines sites across the country, potentially pointing to government’s recent changes in waiting times helping to fight the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa.

To that end, the latest report on the vaccine rollout confirms that 100 887 jabs have been administered in the past 24 hours. This is up quite a bit from recent weeks, where the daily average was around the 60k mark.

As such, a greater fully vaccinated and boosted population can help the country better fight off the impact of future waves of infection.

As of 17:00 on 1st March 2022, a total of 31 652 555 vaccines have been administered, with an estimated 17 118 569 people fully vaccinated at this stage.

Looking at the latest figures from the National Department of Health (NDoH), the past 24 hours has seen 1 649 cases recorded, with the total number of infections to dater now sitting at 3 675 691.

The NDoH also confirms that 18 fatalities have been reported too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa rises to 99 430.

As for other key metrics, the recovery rate has increased slightly to 96.6 percent, and more than 23.11 million tests have been conducted so far.
