UPDATED: Even Disney+ has to wait for Twitter verification

Update 30/03/2022

All of the Disney+ social media accounts linked below are now verified.

Original story:

Early this morning South Africans were in a frenzy on the back of news that Disney+ would finally arrive in South Africa in May.

Alongside the official press releases that were sent out, a Twitter account with the handle @disneyplusza shared the news while also teasing the sort of content we can expect.

However, there was a degree of hesitation from some as this account doesn’t have the iconic Twitter Blue Tick to signify whether it is verified or not. The account only follows three accounts, one of which is DStv for some reason and it was created back in December 2021 further fuelling doubts.

The good news is that we’ve spoken to Disney and it has confirmed the accounts are legitimate and that verification should happen within the next day or two. Twitter is unfortunately infamously slow when it comes to account verification and it seems even Disney, the behemoth it is, isn’t immune to this process.

On that note, Disney also shared its official local accounts for Instagram and Facebook so we recommend giving those a follow using the links below for announcements, trailers and more.

Speaking of strange Twitter accounts, we still hold the opinion that Apple’s official Twitter account is among the weirdest. The account never tweets anything other than event announcements. Once the event is over, the tweet is deleted and the account goes dormant until the next event. The account doesn’t even follow chief executive officer Tim Cook.

At least now you have the official social media accounts for Disney+ in South Africa and we’re expecting some more news about what content we can expect closer to launch on 18th May.
