Today is 8th March which means it’s International Women’s Day and we’re likely to see many companies announcing some efforts to celebrate women and, for Epic Games and its golden goose Fortnite, this means free cosmetics and features.
These four cosmetics can be seen in the header image above and are free to claim until 14th March:
- Per Aspera ad Astra Wrap
- Hop and a Wink Spray
- Heart Sign Emote (The Heart Sign Emote is a synced Emote: the heart above your hand grows if another player does the Emote with you!)
- I Am Fearless Lobby Track (music by Emmy Meli)
These free items are not the only inclusions for International Women’s Day and March as a whole with more happening later this month and into April.
For the rest of March players can tune into the Icon Radio on Joyride vehicles to hear music from a variety of artists that Epic Games calls “women icons”. Unfortunately, in the announcement, no actual names of artists are provided.
“From March 9 at 10 AM ET to March 15 at 9:59 AM ET, jump into the Redcap Village Creative Hub made by creator dummblond. This Hub will highlight exceptional and celebrated Islands from women creators. Additionally launching on March 9 is the Celebrating Women row in the Discover page!” adds said announcement.
Finally, in April, there will be a competitive set of tournaments called the “Women of the eRena (WOTE) Featuring Fortnite”. This circuit is made out of three tournaments each with a $75 000 (~R1.14 million) prize pool.
The first of these tournaments is scheduled for 10th April with more details being released by eFuse in the near future.
Free content and large prize pools are very much welcome here so we’re happy to see that Epic Games is at least investing part of its billions from Fortnite into community events like this.
