Live-action God of War series may be coming to Amazon Prime Video

Movies based on video games are famously bad. The time constraints of a movie simply can’t capture the nuance that gamers experience while playing.

A series, however, gives showrunners room to explore characters and the story being told in more detail. We’ve seen this with Netflix’s The Witcher as well as Arcane set in the League of Legends universe.

While we await the Halo live-action series, PlayStation smash hit God of War may be heading to Amazon Prime Video as a live-action series. This is according to an exclusive report from Deadline.

That report alleges that the series will be adapted by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby who worked on The Expanse and Rafe Judkins who was the executive producer/showrunner for The Wheel of Time. Of course, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions will collaborate on the project. To be clear, Amazon Prime Video is currently in negotiations to produce the show, according to Deadline.

What isn’t clear is where in the story this series will start. The games don’t follow a linear path as regards storytelling with God of War: Ascension actually being the first part of the story. What we’d love to see, and this is just us theorising, is a God of War series that sees Kratos uncovering the various pantheons around the world.

This idea was introduced in the latest God of War game when Kratos heads North. While it was actually the Norse God of War that explored other pantheons, we think that Kratos taking on that role could be a great way for newcomers and stalwarts alike to become invested in the character.

As for who should play Kratos, while many folks will likely jump to Christopher Judge, we have another suggestion: Dave Bautista. The former WWE superstar has proven himself to be a more than capable actor and we could see him as the Ghost of Sparta.

Of course, until this news is confirmed by Amazon Prime Video or Sony itself, we’re just shooting ideas into the ether. We are keen to see a God of War live-action series though, even if a lot of it will be CGI given the monstrous gods Kratos chooses to pick fights with.
