Matrics face last day to apply for October / November exam rewrite

Tomorrow – 15th March – is the last day in which Matrics can register for exam rewrites happening later this year in 2022.

Matrics may choose to register for these rewrites under certain circumstances which affected the original exams such as illness preventing the sitting for an exam, a death in the family or other reasons which could have hampered attendance.

A valid criteria also includes the simple desire to improve exam results, so the barrier to entry here is rather low even though the Department of Basic Education (DBE) mentions these conditions every time a rewrite period is approaching.

Matrics who would like to register for these rewrites need to physically travel to a education district office to do so. These offices are open between 08:00 and 15:00 on weekdays.

A list of these offices can be found on the DBE website here and there seems to be a decent amount of them even in the smallest provinces, which should help with travel.

Those a bit confused with the October / November exam rewrite may be mixing them with the May / June 2022 rewrite which is happening soon with a final schedule released recently showing that this session would kick off on 9th May.

Registration for these exams have long passed and offered students and their parents an easier way to register with an online portal.

The October / November exams, for some reason, can only be registered for in person as mentioned above. We’re still not sure why this decision was made as the pandemic continues and leaving the house for any reason is always a risk.

These two different exam seasons are meant to compliment each other with students missing the earlier one intended to apply for the next –

“Did you miss the registration deadline for 2022 May / June NSC exams? If you are still an NSC candidate (i.e. not had your certificate changed to SC), you may register to write the 2022 Oct / Nov NSC exams. Register at your nearest education district office before 15 March 2022,” the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) writes today.
