In today’s edition of “Japan always gets the coolest stuff” is a special box buyers can choose for their Nintendo Switch OLED Model which is based on Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

This was posted to Reddit where many people outside of Japan have now found it only to look on in envy.

The OLED Model buying page for this offer can be found here and, of course, if you’re outside of Japan you will be met with a note that the offer is “Not available in the country of registration. Please check your Nintendo Account settings”.

Choosing to stay on the page and we can learn more about this promotion such as the fact that it specifically states that the box is not simply a larger shipping box for the console but instead a Kirby replacement for the usual OLED Model packaging.

This is an important distinction as it would be a bit disheartening to buy this only to find that they painted a regular shipping cardboard box pink.

We have the approximate dimensions provided of 23.5 X 12 X 28 centimetres and a note that once the stock sells out the promotion ends.

For those seriously considering this the offer ends on 24th March assuming stock doesn’t run out first.

While this is a fun little offering a special edition console themed around Kirby and the Forgotten would have been appreciated. Nintendo has shown in the past that it’s not afraid to make special versions of their consoles for game releases with Animal Crossing, Pokémon, Diablo and more receiving limited release reskins of existing Switch variants.

At the end of the day a cardboard box probably costs Nintendo next to nothing to produce but, hey, if you’re in Japan and were planning on buying an OLED Switch anyway, why not go for it?
