A ghost itself: Ghost Recon Breakpoint killed by Ubisoft

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint is now ceasing active development and no new content will be added to the title going into the future.

The official account for the Ghost Recon sub-franchise has announced that the Operation Motherland update is the final addition to the game before it’s left as is.

“First, we just want to say thank you for all the love and support you have brought to the game. During the past 2 years, we released more than 11 Updates and supported several unique initiatives. From the Ghost Experience, the return of Al Teammates, Special Operations with Sam Fisher; working with R6 operators in Operation Amber Sky, and lastly our ‘Plant a Tree project’ we have been hard at work to add extra content for Ghost Recon Breakpoint,” the announcement reads.

The Plant a Tree project was a unique exercise that ran in Breakpoint until 20th December 2021. Players were tasked with solving a riddle which revealed a location in the game. At this location a special seed could be found allowing it to be planted.

For each tree planted in this was €0.15 was to be donated to Ecologi, an organisation working to help fight climate change. Players could also buy a cosmetic bundle that would see €5 also donated to Ecologi.

Outside of philanthropy those wanting to play this game into the future can still look forward to the servers staying active, at least right now.

“We will continue to maintain our servers for both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint and we truly hope you will continue to enjoy the game and have fun playing in solo or co-op with your friends. From the entire Ghost Recon team, we want to thank you again for your continued support and love you have for the franchise. The feedback you’ve given for Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been instrumental and will help shape the future of the franchise,” the announcement adds.

While it’s always sad to see a game die we’re not sure too many people were logging into Breakpoint every day. We enjoyed the game well enough when we reviewed it at launch, but that was in October 2019 and we’ve long forgotten it existed.
