Activision Blizzard stockholders say yes to Microsoft acquisition

Microsoft has had a winning week so far. Not only did it’s financial results impress, Activision Blizzard stockholders have now voted in favour of the proposed acquisition by the Redmond-based firm.

On Thursday afternoon in the US, over 98 percent of Activision Blizzard stockholders voted in favour of the proposed transaction with Microsoft. The vote took place during a Special Meeting of Stockholders.

“Today’s overwhelmingly supportive vote by our stockholders confirms our shared belief that, combined with Microsoft, we will be even better positioned to create great value for our players, even greater opportunities for our employees, and to continue our focus on becoming an inspiring example of a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive workplace,” said ever-embattled Activision Blizzard chief executive officer, Bobby Kotick in a letter to investors.

As regards Kotick’s future at Activision Blizzard once the acquisition is complete, that question is yet to be answered.

As reported by IGN last week, in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Activision Blizzard noted that no discussions regarding employment arrangements post closing of this deal have taken place yet.

With that having been said, Kotick has continued to appear in controversies since Microsoft announced its intended acquisition. The latest allegation involving Kotick alleges his former girlfriend and chief operating officer at Facebook Sheryl Sandberg buried a story on two occasions.

We aren’t sure what Microsoft’s plans for Kotick are after the acquisition is complete but the CEO’s name appears to follow controversy, something we’re sure the folks at Microsoft aren’t keen on dealing with.

The acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions.
