At the start of this week, the Presidency announced that the national state of disaster was lifted, with it having been in effect for 750 days.
The country still remains under an adjusted level of level 1 lockdown, but there have been significant changes to how we fight the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa. It means that while you are not required to wear a mask outdoors, there are certain stipulations for indoors.
How this will impact interactions heading into the Easter weekend remains to be seen, especially as the upcoming holiday is viewed as a potential trigger for a fifth wave of infections.
For now though, the daily statistics regarding COVID-19 in South Africa remain relatively low.
To that end the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that 1 538 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, with the total number of infections recorded to date now sitting at 3 725 177.
The department also notes that 15 fatalities have been recorded, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa rises to 100 067. As for the recovery rate, it is now at 97 percent, with the NDoH noting that 3 613 688 recoveries have been reported.
Shifting to the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 51 054 jabs administered. As of 17:00 on 5th April 2022, a total of 33 931 060 vaccines have been administered across SA.
