This as the upcoming Easter holidays could be a potential trigger for a fifth wave of infections. For now though, the daily figures related to the spread of the virus locally remain relatively low.

To that end, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that 1 481 new cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours. The department also notes that the total number of infections recorded in SA to date has since climbed to 3 728 689.

The NDoH adds that five fatalities have been recorded in the past 24 hours too, with the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa now sitting at 100 075.

As for other key figures in the report, the NDoH says the recovery rate remains unmoved at 97 percent ,while more than 23.99 million tests have been conducted to date.
