Fortnite’s latest crossover is with… Jean-Michel Basquiat

If you ever had any doubt about Fortnite eventually crossing over with everything in existence, today two pieces of cosmetic DLC were announced based on the work of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Basquiat was an American artist who died in 1988, though his work is still recognisable decades later. In the announcement for this DLC, Epic Games calls it “influential even to this day”.

For those who would like to read more about the artists we highly recommend the website of his estate. There click on the “life & legacy” option in the top right corner and then on “chronology”. From here you can read through a timeline of Basquiat’s life from birth to death, year by year. It includes key moments in his life together with samples of his art and pictures from photographers.

We gave this a read and enjoyed how informative it was. The parts about his relationship with Andy Warhol, influence in the art scene and declining health due to drug use were all interesting albeit a bit morbid given his eventual death to overdose.

Back to Fortnite now and two pieces from the artist have been turned into “Back Bling”, cosmetic items that go on the back of characters. Both are available in the in-game item shop now and you can see them below.

Crowned Rex Back Bling | Based on Basquiat’s Pez Dispenser (1983)

Basquiat’s Tuxedo Back Bling | Based on Basquiat’s Tuxedo (1982)
