We finally have our first official look at Thor: Love and Thunder, and the teaser has already brought in millions of views.

At the time of publication it’s been around 24 hours since the video was published on YouTube and it’s currently sitting at 20 118 816 views. More than 20 million views in just over a day is incredibly impressive.

The teaser, which you can watch at the bottom of this story, is also in the number six spot on the trending list on YouTube. It’s beaten out by several clips from football and some music videos.

As a point of comparison the last big MCU trailer / teaser we got was for Ms. Marvel, which brought in around half of the views in the same amount of time. That’s still a great showing for Ms. Marvel, however, as it’s the first time the character has been in the MCU as opposed to Thor which has been in many movies over a decade.

Yes the first Thor movie released all the way back in April 2011.

Back to Love and Thunder which has a blurb in the YouTube description:

“The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. We don’t get to see Bale as Gorr in this video as, again, it’s only a teaser. We do get to see his handiwork however as the God Falligar the Behemoth lies dead in an almost one to one recreation of a comic panel. We’re sure Gorr will pop up in the full trailer, though when that will be released is anyone’s guess.

As Waititi bemoans on Twitter the release of this teaser has been a long time coming. If you checked Twitter on any given day in the last few months you would see Thor: Love and Thunder in the trending section as people endlessly discussed when the mysterious teaser would be released, as well as sharing various leaks.

Finally there’s a new poster that also reminds us of the release date: 8th July 2022.
