Showmax introduces a data saving streaming option

With the long weekend on the horizon, Showmax has announced a new feature that lowers data consumption when using the mobile app.

The feature is called Max Data Saving mode and it does what it says on the tin. With this option enabled, users will only consume 50MB of data per hour of content watched. Unfortunately, Max Data Saving mode is currently only available on the iOS with support for Android coming soon.

This mode lowers data consumption beyond that offered in the Low and Data Savings mode which still consume an estimated 300MB and 100MB of data per hour of content consumed.

“Showmax is designed for Africa: a mobile-first continent where the cost of data remains a barrier to streaming,” explains chief operating officer at MultiChoice Connected Video, Barry Dubovsky. “Showmax was the first streaming service in Africa to make mobile downloads possible for offline viewing and the first to launch a mobile-only plan, so we want to keep tailor-making Showmax for African realities.”

To enable Max Data Saving Mode on iOS open the Showmax App, head to Settings and the App Preferences. You can select this option for both mobile and WiFi connections or use Max Data Saving Mode while on the move and then have max quality when you’re on WiFi.

As a reminder, Showmax also offers mobile only subscription plans for both vanilla Showmax and Showmax Pro.
