This evening Xiaomi South Africa held an event to mark the local launch of its new Redmi Note 11 Series. These new mid-range devices were revealed globally by Xiaomi a week ago and are now available to purchase in South Africa, which quite an impressive turnaround time.

That said, the new devices made available locally are slightly different as the ones showcased globally a week ago. This as they do not support 5G. As such, the initial rollout of the this series in SA is for the 4G flavours of the Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11.

Is 5G connectivity a must-have?

Given the current state of spectrum allocation locally, probably not, but it is something we deemed important to point out, especially given the number of new 5G supporting mid-range phones from other Chinese and South Korean companies of late.

So what about these new devices, well as mentioned both are available to purchase now, with Xiaomi South Africa partnering with the likes of Vodacom, MTN and Takealot.

As for recommended pricing, the Redmi Note 11 Pro starts from R6 4 99 and the Note 11 begins at R5 299, depending on the retailer.

That is quite a tempting price, so it will be interesting to see what the RRP will be once the 5G variants of both devices is when they land in SA. At the time of writing, no official date or timeframe has been confirmed on those devices.
