OpenSea’s Discord server has seemingly been breached

The largest NFT marketplace, OpenSea, has seemingly suffered a breach of its Discord server.

A few hours ago the support account for the NFT marketplace warned users to not click any links in its Discord server stating it was investigating a potential vulnerability.

Now, two hours later, users still don’t have an idea what is going on unless they happened to be in the Discord earlier today.

We say this because according to responses to the tweet above, a fake NFT mint link was posted to the Discord claiming that OpenSea had partnered with YouTube.

One user posted a screenshot of the link and accompanying message to Twitter. The message directed users to a website that looks convincing enough, but is more than likely malicious.

The platform said it would be sharing more information as it comes to light so we highly recommend following the OpenSea support account over on Twitter until normal service resumes on Discord.

This is not the first instance of a Discord being breached in order to gain access to NFTs. Just last month, owners of Bored Ape Yacht Cub NFTs found themselves unwillingly divorced from their apes.

There the hacker placed a fake mint link for Yuga Labs OthersideMeta project on Discord that was convincing enough to net the attacker approximately $3 million in value.

It’s not clear whether these two incidents are related nor whether the OpenSea breach has lead to any losses.
