TikTok Pulse will give top creators a share of ad revenue

The TikTok Creator Fund hasn’t been the best solution for funding creators on the platform with many lamenting that other platforms share advertising revenue with creators.

Now TikTok is going to be sharing revenue with creators under the banner of something the platform calls TikTok Pulse. Revenue sharing is just one part of this solution however as TikTok hopes to bring in more advertising in order to share that revenue.

In order to do this Pulse will reportedly place advertising alongside the top four percent of videos on TikTok. The platform says that the advertising will be targeted with 12 categories brands can place their brands next to.

“These categories include favorite content from beauty and fashion to cooking and gaming and so many other verticals the TikTok community loves engaging with. This creates an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the communities that matter most to brands,” TikTok explained in a press release.

This is more than likely going to lead to more advertising being visible on TikTok.

As for the revenue sharing model, creators will need to have at least 100 000 followers to be eligible during the initial phases of the programme. The programme is open to creators, public figures and media publishers.

“We’re focused on developing monetization solutions in available markets so that creators feel valued and rewarded on TikTok. From the very beginning, we’ve committed to working with our community to bring new features that enrich the TikTok experience, and we look forward to continuing that journey with TikTok Pulse,” the firm added.

What exactly are “available markets”? According to a report from The Verge, Pulse will launch in the US in June with other territories following thereafter. The platform also said that the split of revenue share with creators will be 50 percent for both TikTok and creators.

This all looks very good but we will have to see it in practice before we praise TikTok.

It’s also unclear what will happen as regards the TikTok Creator Fund but more monetisation options are always welcome.
