5 series to binge on Netflix, Showmax and Disney+ in June

The colder weather that has hit parts of the country this week makes the perfect excuse to cancel your plans and camp out on the couch with your favourite streaming service.

This month sees a number of fan favourite shows returning to streaming services after long release gaps brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic among other things.

Let’s start with content you can watch right now.

Peacemaker – Streaming on Showmax now

John Cena reprises his role from The Suicide Squad as Peacemaker. Created by James Gunn, the series follows the trials and tribulations of Peacemaker and things get rather bloody. The show does have the best opening sequence we’ve ever seen though so we’re recommending this one based on that.

Obi Wan Kenobi – Streaming on Disney+, new episodes weekly

Yes, we’re sort of cheating with this one given that the show officially launched on Disney+ on Friday 27th May. However, given that the series will have new episodes released every week, we’re counting this as a June release. Obi Wan Kenobi picks up after the events of Star Wars – Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and without spoiling anything, the show is fantastic. Not only is it great to see old faces from the Star Wars Universe, the show hooks you in immediately.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 – Arrives on Netflix 22nd June

Our favourite dysfunctional family of superheroes returns in the third installment of The Umbrella Academy. We’re expecting time paradoxes to play a heavy role and we’re keen to see Eliot Page laying waste to some big bads once again.

Station Eleven – Streaming on Showmax now

This HBO Max series which is now available on Showmax, might hit a little too close to home. The series follows a group of survivors following a devasting pandemic as they attempt to rebuild the world.

Ms. Marvel – Arrives 8th June on Disney+

With Disney+ now available locally South Africans no longer have to jump through hoops to enjoy original content. Aside from Obi Wan Kenobi, the next highly anticipated series from the House of Mouse is Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel. This looks like a fun coming of age story set in the Marvel universe and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan looks to be a fantastic choice for the character.
