In an all too familiar routine, the country braces for the weekend with the threat of COVID-19 in South Africa looming in the background. Compared to previous weekends, however, it does not look like loadshedding or indeed a spike in cases needs to be worried about.
That said, the situation can change at the drop of a hat. For now though, the most immediate concern is the drop in temperature now that Winter is in full swing.
As for the latest figures regarding the spread of the virus, the new report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that 1 976 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours. The total number of infections recorded to date has since risen to 3 975 062 as a result.
The department also notes that 24 fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too. The death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa now sits at 101 448.
Other key figures in the report show the recovery rate remaining unmoved for three days straight at 96.8 percent, while more than 25.44 million tests have been conducted to date.
Shifting to the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 37 737 jabs administered. As of 17:00 on 9th June 2022, a total of 36 406 003 vaccinations have been administered across SA.
