This week brings with it a welcome reprieve from concerns regarding COVID-19 in South Africa in the form of Youth Day on 16th June. Many will likely use the occasion to turn this upcoming weekend into a long one.
As we wait to see what the numbers regarding the spread of the virus is doing, currently the figures remain relatively low.
This as the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that only 962 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, which is far less than we have seen in previous weeks.
Consequently, the total number of infections recorded to date now sits at 3 978 590. The department also notes that seven fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has reached 101 484.
Other key statistics in the latest report show the recovery rate rising to 96.9 percent, while more than 25.49 million tests have been conducted to date.
As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 1 303 jabs administered owing to it being a Sunday, although that figure is less than half of what we normally see on Sundays. As of 17:00 on 12th June 2022, a total of 36 448 670 vaccines have been administered across SA.
