COVID-19 in South Africa: 14th June 2022

While we are yet to determine whether the daily infection rate for COVID-19 in South Africa is being to slow significantly, the latest reports do give some cause for optimism.

This as the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that only 536 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours, which is far less than we have seen in recent weeks. It is unclear if this low figure is simply the result to a low start to the week, but it is promising.

Consequently, the total number of infections recorded in the country to date now sits at 3 979 126.

While new infections are low, there are still some concerns regarding fatalities, with 25 reported over the past 24 hours too. The death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has reached 101 509 as a result.

Looking at other key figures in the report, the recovery rate has not moved from 96.9 percent, while more than 25.50 million tests have been conducted to date.

As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 31 651 jabs administered, with 11 636 of these being booster shots. As of 17:00 on 13th June 2022, a total of 36 484 428 vaccines have been administered across SA.
