Tomorrow is Youth Day and while the country prepares to remember what the day represents, the public holiday also brings with a much needed respite from the challenges of COVID-19 in South Africa.

This coupled with the looming threat of loadshedding once again being implemented, means people in the country deserve a break from what has already proved a very tough month.

The one positive perhaps, is the fact that new daily infections appear to be decreasing compared to the rising numbers we saw a couple of weeks ago.

To that end, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) confirms that 710 new cases have been recorded over the past 24 hours. The department adds that the total number of infections recorded to date now sits at 3 979 836.

Unfortunately though, the NDoH also reports that 41 fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too, as the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has reached 101 550.

Looking at other key figures in the latest report, the NDoH says the recovery rate has risen slightly to 97 percent, while more than 25.51 million tests have been conducted so far.

As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 33 535 jabs administered. As of 17:00 on 14th June 2022, a total of 36 522 914 vaccines have been administered across SA.
