COVID-19 in South Africa: 9th June 2022

This week looks to be better than previous ones as regards COVID-19 in South Africa. Added to this, and at the risk of jinxing the country, there has been no signs of loadshedding on the horizon.

That said, both elements can change in an instant, which is why we need to remain vigilant in fighting the spread of the virus.

Looking at the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH), the past 24 hours has seen 2 093 new cases recorded. This sees the total number of infections recorded to date climb to 3 973 086.

The department also notes that 27 fatalities have been recorded over the past 24 hours too, which is down from the previous day. As a result the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa now sits at 101 424.

Other key figures in the latest report sees the recovery rate remain at 96.8 percent as 3 846 597 recoveries have been recorded so far, while more than 25.42 million tests have been conducted to date.

As for the vaccine rollout, the NDoH confirms that 39 654 jabs have been administered over the past 24 hours. As of 17:00 on 8th June 2022, a total of 36 363 675 vaccines have been administered across the country.
