Destiny 2 Exotics we want to see get Anti-Champ functionality

When Bungie launched Destiny 2: Shadowkeep in 2018, it added a new sort of enemy to the game – Champions.

Champions are usually present in end-game content and can take one of three forms namely; Unstoppable, Overload and Barrier. In order to dispatch these opponents, players need to equip special mods that will allow a weapon to stun the Champion. The trouble is that these Anti-Champion mods rotate out every season.

This helps to freshen up the game by forcing players to use weapons they may not have but, there are some weapons which have intrinsic Anti-Champion functionality.

These include Eriana’s Vow, Bastion, Devil’s Ruin and Leviathan’s Breath among others.

We bring this up because of a small mention in Bungie’s latest This Week at Bungie blog. Speaking about what is to come in Season 18, the Bungie Weapons Team said, “Some highlights: revisiting some weapon subfamilies, Legendary perk and Exotic weapon tuning and adding intrinsic anti-Champion functionality to several Exotic weapons.”

While we don’t have an word on what Exotic weapons will get intrinsic Anti-Champion functionality, we have some suggestions.

Anti-Barrier for Skyburner’s Oath

This weapon has always occupied a strange place in the game. White it’s perk For the Empire is good against Cabal Phalanx Shields, it’s not good for much else. Or at least it wasn’t until the weapon was recently updated to apply Scorch when hip firing. We’d love to see Skyburner’s Oath receive intrinsic Anti-Barrier functionality as it would make sense given the anti-shield functionality the weapon already has.

Anti-Barrier/Unstoppable for all Exotic Snipers

Ask yourself, when was the last time you pulled out an Exotic Sniper Rifle? Was it when Whisper of the Worm was still a DPS king? Because that was in like 2018. Exotic Sniper Rifles are in a bad place at the moment. Not only do they take up an Exotic slot, they also take up the Heavy weapon slot and the damage they output is laughable.

We believe that the best way to make Exotic snipers more attractive is to give them Anti-Champion functionality or place them in the Secondary weapon slot. As the latter is unlikely to happen, we’re opting for the former. That having been said, Bungie really needs to make these weapons more viable to use.

Anti-Overload for Wavesplitter

The Exotic Trace Rifle Wavesplitter is already great but what would make it just that little better is some Anti-Champion functionality. The Exotic perk, Supercharged Battery, already suppresses with sustained fire so Anti-Overload makes sense. It would also help when the Overload mod for the season is for SMGs and Auto Rifles.

Anti-Champion cycle for MIDA Multi-Tool

The fact that MIDA Multi-Tool only has two perks (faster movement and active radar while aiming down sights) doesn’t exactly scream “multi-functional alien dispatching machine”. While the weapon can be good in PvP, MIDA doesn’t see much if any play in end-game content. We believe that allowing MIDA to cycle between Anti-Champion mods, not only would the name make more sense but it gives players more freedom with the rest of their loadout.

Granted, having all Anti-Champion mods on one weapon could lead to problems down the line such as everybody only running MIDA but we feel that this weapon is in dire need of something more than increased movement speed.

Anti-Overload for Telesto

We’ll be honest, the only reason we put Telesto (pictured in the header) on this list is because doing anything to this weapon is sure to break the game. For this reason and only this reason, we want Bungie to add Anti-Overload as an intrinsic perk to Telesto. Perhaps that will be the push the weapon needs to finally become sentient and break out of the game.

These are just the few weapons that came to mind when we read Bungie’s blog. Have your own ideas? Let us know over on Twitter or Facebook.
