Friend requests were causing Rocket League freezing

Rocket League patch v2.17 is out and should fix intermittent freezing in the game, a problem that has been attributed to a large amount of friend requests.

The patch notes point out that this problem, identified by user @SunlessKhan, could be tracked to Epic Games accounts which are receiving too many of these requests.

For those who haven’t looked at Rocket League for a while, the developer and publisher of the game Psyonix was bought by Epic Games and accounts from the latter company became required.

While the patch should become live and fix the problem after an update, Epic Games / Psyonix does provide a way to manually fix the problem should the freezing issue continue.

This process, which you can read through below, will delete all pending friend requests on an Epic Games account.

  1. Install the Epic Games Launcher
  2. Log into the Epic Games Launcher
If you have not logged into Epic Games before, check out the article: How do I Upgrade a Platform Account to a full Epic Games Account?
  3. Click Friends on the left-hand side of the screen
  4. Click the gears icon (Social Settings)
  5. Select the Receiving Friend Requests setting
  6. Select No One

After going through these steps another process is provided to check your work and make sure all the requests are gone:

  1. Launch Rocket League on your platform
  2. Open the Friends List by selecting the Friends icon in the bottom right corner
  3. Select the Bell icon to view the Notifications tab
  4. Confirm that Friend Requests show 0

Finally, after all of that, if problems persist players are instructed to look through the Platform Crash Guides available here.
