Bungie to showcase next Destiny 2 expansion in August

With the fate of Savathun up in the air following the events in Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen expansion, players are eager to uncover what’s next in the story line.

Truth be told, we weren’t expecting any news until around September, but on Thursday Bungie dropped a teaser announcing a showcase on 23rd August.

That teaser really doesn’t reveal, well, anything. The footage we see is grabbed from past expansions and the voice-over is the same we hear at the end of the Witch Queen’s campaign.

With that having been said, we do know that the next expansion in Destiny 2 is tentatively named Lightfall and it will be the penultimate expansion in the so-called Light versus Dark saga that has been unfolding in Destiny 2.

There are many theories about where Bungie could take the story over the next few seasons. One of the major themes Bungie has been pushing through Destiny’s narrative is that of unlikely alliances and with a war brewing, we expect the developer won’t be shy to shock its players.

The big question now is when Lightfall – or whatever Bungie names this expansion – will release. This is going to be a major expansion which means we will likely be exploring a new destination with new weapons and potentially new abilities.

Last year, Bungie hosted a showcase at around the same time in August so we could very well see a February release date once again.

The Destiny 2 Showcase on 23rd August can be live streamed over on Bungie’s Twitch channel.
