Dev tips for ‘Unfair Mode’ in Into the Breach: Advanced Edition

Into the Breach: Advanced Edition has now launched bringing with it a slew of new content, new platforms to play, quality of life changes and more.

One big new addition is that of a much more challenging difficulty that developer Subset Games affectionately calls “Unfair Mode”.

Aimed at those who have already mastered the original base game, Unfair Mode throws a lot at the player with infinitely spawning enemies, stronger enemies earlier in the campaign and more.

Not to leave players out there alone, Subset Games has provided some tips to get you going.

“This mode is for veterans looking for even more of a challenge but it might require different strategies than you’re used to. There will be many more situations where damage is inevitable so it’ll be more important to take losses strategically – depending on the situation, it might be better to lose grid power, sacrifice a pilot, or fail a mission objective,” the announcement reads.

“Grid power gains are doubled which means it’s much easier to pull back from the brink of defeat. Don’t give up after a few setbacks. There is a limit to how many Vek can spawn so sometimes it’s more advantageous to leave some weak Vek alive rather than wiping them out early.”

While this is for experienced players the Advanced Edition update has a lot for newcomers too, including the ability to play the game for free through Netflix.

Anyone with a subscription to the streaming platform can now enjoy the game without any additional purchases by simply loading it up through the Android or iOS apps. The control scheme and layout of the game has been optimised for touchscreens and, because this is a turn based game, you don’t need to worry about any external controllers.

We highly recommend that everyone gives the game a try with this lower barrier to entry, but if you need further convincing see our review of the base game from its launch in 2018.
