Gollum game delayed with no new release date

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will not launch on 1st September as originally intended with developer and co-publisher Daedalic Entertainment announcing a delay.

No new release date has been provided for the game with only a vague timeline of several months provided.

“…in order to deliver the best possible experience, we have decided to push the release of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum by a few months. We will update you with an exact timing in the near future. We are grateful for our passionate community and we cannot wait to share this unique adventure with you soon!” the announcement reads.

In discussions of the delays on places like Reddit and Twitter, many point to the fact that the last we saw of the game didn’t paint a promising picture.

That last look was earlier this month when the other co-publisher, Nacon, released a gameplay trailer for Gollum which you can watch in the embed below.

Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon don’t make mention of this, only stating that more time is needed to complete the game.

“…we would like to thank all of you for your patience and support so far. Over the last years, our team has been working hard to bring you a remarkable story in a breathtaking world, filled with magic and wonder. We are dedicated to meeting our community’s expectations and uncovering the untold story of Gollum in a way that honours the vision of J. R. R. Tolkien,” the announcement adds.

For those who have not been keeping track of this game, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an action title with a focus on story and stealth. Players take control of the titular Gollum and his other identity Sméagol in a new tale set in Middle-earth.

Interestingly the new Amazon Prime Lord of the Rings show, The Rings of Power, is set to start streaming on 2nd September.

We can’t help but wonder if delaying the game has anything to do with this release as we have to imagine that The Rings of Power will be all anyone talks about from Lord of the Rings for a while.
