Minecraft x Lightyear finally launches on Nintendo Switch

The latest Minecraft crossover is with Lightyear, but it isn’t exactly new as other platforms have had access to the content for quite some time now.

Minecraft x Lightyear launched on 17th June on other platforms, but Nintendo Switch players have had to wait more than a month to access it.

No reason has been given for this delay other than a cheeky mention on the official Minecraft website stating that the delay was caused by a battle with Emperor Zurg.

“Follow the legendary Space Ranger through his blockiest intergalactic adventure, telling the tale of his origin! Inspired by the Disney and Pixar movie Lightyear, Cyclone presents the Lightyear DLC in Minecraft Marketplace. Download this cosmic content to explore the galaxy through five missions, use nifty gadgets, and even drive awesome vehicles. Be sure to moon walk over to the Dressing Room for a free Lightyear themed Character Creator item!” reads the official description.

Since launching on other platforms the Lightyear content has garnered 2 049 reviews on the Minecraft Marketplace. At the time of writing it has close to a five out of five star rating too.

As for the price of this crossover it can be unlocked in said marketplace for 1 340 Minecoins. You would need to buy a Minecoin bundle of 1 720 coins for $9.99 (~R171) to access it as all the cheaper bundles don’t contain enough coins which makes this quite an expensive addition.

To convince any fencesitters there’s also a trailer which can be watched in the embed below.

It is, of course, Minecraft, but some of the models like the new enemies and Buzz’s XL-15 Spaceship (see above) look like they’re from a different game, in a good way. If you just showed us that screenshot we would be inclined to believe it was from a different, less blocky game.
