Welcome To Wrexham will air on Disney+ in South Africa

The latest Disney+ content is a documentary series called Welcome To Wrexham, helmed by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, that is launching next month with availability now confirmed for South Africa.

Local Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream the show starting on 25th August with a premiere of two half-hour episodes of the show.

The trailer uploaded for the show on Reynolds’ personal YouTube channel below makes no mention of Disney+ and only shows production logos for FX, the same network that hosts McElhenney’s show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. There’s also an unlisted version of the trailer with Disney+ branding uploaded to the Disney Plus UK & Ireland channel.

Thankfully a press release from Disney sent to us confirms the aforementioned South African availability, as well as providing some explanation behind the weird story of two actors buying a Welsh football club.

“In 2020, Rob and Ryan teamed up to purchase the 5th tier Red Dragons in the hopes of turning the club into an underdog story the whole world could root for. The worry? Rob and Ryan have no experience in football or working with each other. From Hollywood to Wales, from the pitch to the locker room, the front office to the pub, ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ will track Rob and Ryan’s crash course in football club ownership and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town counting on two actors to bring some serious hope and change to a community that could use it,” the press release reads.

Hopefully the series will shed more light into the strange circumstances that made this all possible and just how much influence McElhenney and Reynolds have over things.

Even for those not interested in football this could be an interesting watch for the story alone, but we’ll obviously need to watch it first come 25th August to make that decision.
