See the very BioShock combat of Atomic Heart

We have been closely following the development of Atomic Heart since May 2018 and, as we finally get closer to its supposed release window of Q4 2022, there’s a new trailer for us to watch.

While many of the past trailers for the game have focused on the weird setting of an alternate reality, sci-fi Soviet Union, or the unique gameplay mechanics, the spotlight here is on combat.

In that arena we’re getting a lot of BioShock vibes as the player can use various powers through their left hand and a gun on the right.

The trailer also shows us a great use of those left hand abilities, such as using telekinesis to loot for items. We love the BioShock games but you spend a significant amount of time in all of them standing against containers and spamming the interact button to get important supplies, so swinging through an area and doing it remotely seems great.

“A system failure at Soviet Facility № 3826 leads machinery to rebel against the people. You are Major P-3, Private Agent, and your task is to minimize the consequences of this ‘systems failure’ and prevent the leakage of classified information,” reads the video description.

“To succeed, you’ll have to do your homework and study every deadly foe to avoid becoming their next victim, for secret experiments have led to the emergence of terrifying mutants, implacable machines, and bloodthirsty creatures.”

Putting the fantastical elements aside we do see some more traditional FPS baked in, such as hitmarkers.

Outside of combat the game simply looks damn good. Despite all its press, Atomic Heart is still an indie game but certain parts of the trailer do look photo real. Will things still look that good when it launches across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X? We’ll have to wait and see.

The trailer can be watched in the embed below and, if you like the music, it can be listened to separately here.
