Twitch partners can now stream on YouTube and Facebook

For content creators, the choice of platform has proved crucial, with the move of bigger names to rival offerings generating many headlines, but that could soon be a thing of the past.

This as Twitch has confirmed that partnered creators will be able to stream on other platforms, with the only real proviso being that they cannot stream on Twitch and another platform simultaneously.

On this point, Twitch is only focusing on similar platforms that facilitate longer streaming sessions, like YouTube and Facebook Live. The Amazon-owned service did, however, note that simulcasts on Twitch and a platform like TikTok or Instagram Live, would be permitted.

“We do not allow simulcasting on web-based, Twitch-like services that support streaming for extended periods of time, such as YouTube and Facebook, because we believe engaging with two streams at once can lead to a sub-optimal experience for your community. However, we know many of you want to use other services to grow your community, so simulcasting on short form, mobile services, such as TikTok or Instagram Live, is allowed,” an updated FAQ page clarifies.

TechCrunch reports that partnered creators received emails yesterday notifying them of the change to its exclusivity policy.

“When we first developed the Partner Program, we felt it was important for streamers to focus solely on Twitch for live streaming to build their communities,” the email highlighted.

“We still believe that Twitch is the best place for creators to build and engage with community. We also recognize that the digital landscape has changed since we first introduced the Partner Program and that many of you engage with your communities in many different places. So, we are updating our policy,” it explained.

How larger creators who have moved from one platform to the other of late, like Ludwig Ahgren, will react is unclear for now.

Either way, this is a rather significant move on the part of Twitch, so it will be interesting to see whether other platforms with exclusive contracts with creators will allow for something similar.
