Xbox Game Pass family plan being tested by Microsoft

Sharing subscriptions has proved a contentious issue of late on streaming platforms, with many choosing to clamp down on it of late. To its credit, Microsoft is looking to add more sharing to its platform with a test for a Game Pass family plan kicking off in two regions.

The countries are Ireland and Colombia, with Xbox Insiders members given access to the feature to test it out. This will allow them to add up to four people to their Game Pass subscription and make use of the service in its current guise.

“Starting today in Colombia and Ireland, Xbox Insiders can begin to preview a plan that allows multiple people to share Game Pass Ultimate benefits. This makes it even easier to play the best Game Pass games with friends and family across console, PC, and cloud by enabling you to add up to four people to your subscription, all with their own unique access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, content, and benefits,” Microsoft explained in a blog post.

“The people you share your membership with do not have to be Insiders but must reside in the same country as you. Enrollment is limited and will remain open while the offer is available,” it added in clarification for this preview.

While the test is limited to Ireland and Colombia for now, Microsoft is encouraging people to join its Xbox Insider program, which potentially hints at the test being expanded into other regions.

Either way, for those wanting to test out the latest offerings from Microsoft, whether they are good or not, the Xbox Insider program is the best way to do so outside of being a game developer.

With Game Pass continuing to be the best bang for buck in terms of access to game libraries at the moment, the addition of a family plan should prove a real boost for Microsoft.

For now though, there is no indication on whether this feature will roll out as fully fledged.
