Amazon will produce a new Blade Runner sequel series

In November last year, while promoting House of Gucci, Ridley Scott gave an interview hinting on what he will be working on in the future. That project is a Blade Runner series, with Scott confirming that a pilot was already written at the time.

Where said series would was still to be determine, but Variety now reports that Amazon will be producing the project and sharing it via its Prime Video platform.

The series will serve as a sequel to the 2017 film, with its title being Blade Runner 2099. The details around what it will focus on remains unclear, but given that it is set 50 years after the events of 2049, we suspect the big focus will be on the replicant uprising.

Other details surrounding the project confirm that Scott will serve as a producer on the project, with Halo’s Silka Luisa also attached as a producer.

That is about it really, with no other information regarding casting at the time. It would be a bit of a long shot, but it would be nice to see the likes of Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford reprising their roles from 2049.

That said, the world of Blade Runner is rich for mining, so there is always scope to find new talent to take up entirely different roles.

Either way we are excited to see what Amazon can do, especially as it has a number of our favourite series already, including The Boys and Invincible. Whether it will top the cost of production that the Rings of Power did, at $465 million, remains to be seen.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to go watch both films back-to-back.
