New details revealed about Samsung’s Android 13 reskin

  • Samsung has revealed new details for One UI 5, the company’s reskin for Android 13.
  • One UI 5 comes with increased personalisation and customisation features and functionalities.
  • New security features are also on the way to Samsung devices to One UI 5.

One UI 5 is Samsung’s upcoming reskin of Android 13, and the South Korean tech giant says that it will be finishing up with its public beta testing “in the coming weeks.” Apparently, the beta for One UI 5 was opened earlier than previous incarnations to ensure the “best possible product” for end users.

According to Samsung, One UI 5 represents the company’s “most personalised mobile experience yet” and is being designed to give users more personalisation options for their smartphone’s UI.

One of the first new features coming in One UI 5 is Samsung’s “Bixby Text Call,” which will reportedly allow users to answer phone calls simply by typing a message.

This is accomplished through Samsung’s Bixby intelligent platform converting text to audio and sharing it directly with the caller on the other line. This feature, the company says, is perfect for moments when you need to communicate but just can’t do so vocally.

Another new innovation coming to Samsung devices through the One UI 5 update is the Routines feature. The company argues that most users won’t be using the same functionalities when they get up in the morning as those they use during the day, or even in the evening.

With Routines, users will be able to trigger “a sequence of actions” on their smartphones based on their activities. What’s more, with One UI 5’s Mode function, users can create different settings suites for different “parts” of their lives.

For example, when you’re working you can set a mode that puts your phone on loud, brightens the screen, and sets up all your work apps to be front and centre. Alternatively, when you’re getting ready for bed you can set your phone on silent and go into the dark mode to help you wind down.

Notifications have also been refined on One UI 5.

New and improved customisation options are also being worked on, including a way to turn videos into moving wallpapers. The clock style and notification pop-ups can also be customised.

Widgets on Samsung smartphones will receive an update on One UI 5. These will now be tailored according to an automatic “Smart Suggestion” system that suggests apps and actions according to your personal mobile experience.

Finally, security and privacy will be expanded. A new security dashboard will show users their device’s security status. It will also show security suggestions and warnings.

Hopefully, Samsung will also bring the spam SMS reporting functionality to their devices that is rumoured to be coming to Apple’s latest operating system, since both companies seem to be heading towards customisation and increased personalisation for their operating systems.

Which is a good thing because increased customisation is always a plus. Also, the personalised Routines feature sounds like it will lead to more automation in the day-to-day usage of Samsung smartphones.

With the automatic personalisation features in mind, if Samsung continues to invest in personalisation, customisation and automation, the sky is the limit when it comes down to ease of use.
