Black Friday: 9 retailers to watch for top tech deals

After two years of COVID-19 lockdowns putting a damper on November’s usual crazed-consumer shopping festivities, this year’s Black Friday is set for 25th November 2022 and it’s shaping up to be a big one.

Expect most of South Africa’s big retailers to look to take advantage of Black Friday and launch reduced prices and sales in November until and after the sale.

Sales on tech are a big deal in November, and some retailers are already reducing prices on stock for month-long “Black November” deals.

Here are nine retailers to keep your eye on for tech deals this Black Friday

Game

The Massmart-owned retailer is looking to return to its one-day Black Friday sale roots.

On 25th November, Game will open its doors at 108 stores across South Africa from midnight to eight in the evening and offer major deals on electronics, appliances, homeware, DIY and outdoor products.

Game has also announced a Black Friday Wishlist competition, where those who enter can win a share of R20 000 in Game vouchers.

LG

This month South Africans can expect big savings on LG electronics including Black Friday-style deals on QNED and LG OLED TVs.

As part of LG’s Life’s Good Celebration Black November sales running from 1st to 31st November, you can save up to R8 000 on the LG 4K 65-inch OLED CS retailing at R36 999.

Or save R5 000 on LG’s 65-inch 4K QNED806 TV, which is on sale for R19 999.

LG is offering loads more deals on certain OLED, QNED, NanoCell, and UHD TV devices, as well as on audio device deals offering R5 000 worth of savings.

Incredible

Now rebranded to just “Incredible”, the former Incredible Connection is offering its first Black November sale under the monicker of “Black Star November.”

The tech retailer is offering some great tech deals this month, with savings of R3 500 on gaming PCs, including the ASUS PBA desktop with an i5 2.6Ghz processor, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, and a GeForce GTX 1660Ti for R18 999.

Or save R6 000 on the Skyworth 75-inch UHD LED Android TV, retailing for R13 999. There are also loads of deals available for gaming notebooks with savings of up to R5 000.

HiFi Corp

A familiar face for South African tech and appliances, HiFi Corp is also pushing a Black November sale with Black Friday deals.

The retailer is offering deals across TVs, fridges, air fryers, washing machines, stoves, and microwaves as part of its Black Tag November.

You can save up to R8 000 on a Samsung 75-inch SM QLED 4K TV or R2 000 on a Samsung 470L French Door Fridge.

One of its biggest deals is for the Samsung 65-inch SM Neo QLED 8K TV which has been reduced by R10 000 to R39 999.

Hirsch’s

Appliances retailer Hirsch’s is also offering a month-long Black Friday sale across TVs and appliances.

However, the appliances shop is doing something different with a phased approach to its sales across the month. Setting four different levels of deals along November, with Level 1 unlocking on 1st November.

Level 2 will unlock on the 15th November, with Levels 3 and 4 unlocking on Friday 25th November. Each Level will have different deals across Hirsch’s catalogues and savings will presumably get better as the level increases.

With Level 1 you can save thousands on air fryers and microwaves with the biggest savings seen on its stoves and TV catalogues.

Takealot

South Africa’s ecommerce giant Takealot will launch its Black Friday Blue Dot sale one minute past midnight on Friday the 25th.

“From TVs to tech, laptops, toys and beauty, there’s a Black Friday special for everyone during the Takealot.com Blue Dot Sale,” the retailer says.

Shoppers can expect “deep discounts” this year from Takealot with deliveries right to your door or at specific Takealot Pickup Points nationwide.

Takealot is not content with one day of sales, however. After Black Friday, expect more deals on tech at Takealots Cyber Monday sale. Then on Tuesday Takealot launches its “Takealot Tuesday” deals which are aimed at supporting local companies.

Like on every year, users who download the Takealot app will receive a sneak peek of the deals that will become available on Black Friday from 21st November.

Makro

Wholesaler Makro is also getting ready for a one-day Black Friday this year.

This year, Makro says it will offer “the widest selection of products ranging from appliances to liquor, electronics, cellular, gaming, and much more.”

Users looking to get the fastest access to Makro’s deals on 25th November are urged to download the Makro mobile app.

Samsung

Samsung South Africa is offering its own deals this month, with free delivery to your doorstep valid from 2nd November to 28th November 2022.

The manufacturer says that this month you can earn up to 10 times the amount of Samsung reward on selected TVs purchased through its website.

Save R9 999.99 on the Samsung 85-inch QLED 4K TV, retailing for 34 999, or save R9 000 on the Samsung HW-Q990B Q-Series Soundbar reduced to R17 999.

Samsung is also offering savings of up to 40 percent on select storage technologies including MicroSD cards and SSDs.

iStore

Apple generally doesn’t hold a “Black Friday sale” as such, but instead offers a four-day shopping event with gift cards.

However, it seems that iStore South Africa could gearing up for big deals on Apple devices like iPhones and iPads this year.

No promotions have been set yet unfortunately, but it is still early in the month and there are a few weeks left before 25th November.

Like iStore, more retailers will begin releasing information on tech sales this month, along with sales on every other possible thing you could buy in a shop.

So make sure to look for the best specials to save the most money this year and make sure to be safe as the crowds begin to gather at in-person openings. Chances are, it’s going to be chaos.
