Random troll interrupts Game of the Year winner moment

  • The 2022 edition of The Game Awards wrapped up last night and it was another memorable event.
  • As Elden Ring took the top prize at the event, a random fan quietly snuck on stage and shouted out Bill Clinton to close out the show.
  • Many other high-profile announcements were made at The Game Awards, like the reveal of FromSoftware’s next video game, new information about Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC, and much more.

Last night saw the 2022 edition of the Game Awards which seeks to honour the best in video gaming for the year. It was another memorable event, with Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok emerging as the biggest winners, with four and six awards respectively.

It was a horse race between these two titles, on which the story of the whole award show hinged. Finally, it was Elden Ring who secured the most votes and won the top prize of Game of the Year.

In a bizarre turn, a random fan quietly snuck on stage with Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki and the FromSoftware team as they were accepting the award.

The person patiently waited for the team to finish their speeches, and then took the microphone to nominate an award to his rabbi “Bill Clinton”. The show then closes out with security briskly moving to apprehend the man.

According to Game Awards organiser, Geoff Keighley, the person has been arrested following the interruption.

Apart from this brief discrepancy, the rest of the show went without a hitch. Keighley tweeted that the show managed to hit “new viewership peaks” on YouTube, no doubt a precursor to announcements that this year’s show was their “most streamed ever.”

Apart from winning the top award, Elden Ring also took the award for Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction and Best Role Playing.

God of War Ragnarok took Best Narrative, Best Score, Best Audio Design, Best Performance, Best Action/Adventure, and Innovation in Accessibility.

Other notable winners include Marvel Snap for taking Best Mobile Game, MMO Final Fantasy XIV won Best Ongoing Game, cat game Stray won Best Indie and Bayonetta 3 won Best Action Game.

Several high-profile announcements and reveals took place at the event, including the latest gameplay trailer for Space Marine II.

FromSoftware’s next game, Armoured Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was announced, marking a rebirth of the company’s robot building and battling series.

The sequel to one of the most acclaimed titles of 2018, Hades, was also announced, accompanied by a beautifully animated intro showing off the game’s aesthetics.

Other major announcements include the reveal of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2, Ken Levine’s next Bioshock-flavoured horror shooter, Idris Elba joining Cyberpunk 2077 as a major character, and new information was revealed about the next Star Wars Jedi title, Diablo IV, Street Fighter 6 and the Suicide Squad game.
