Kyalami will appear in Forza Motorsport

  • Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios provided an update regarding development of Forza Motorsport.
  • The game will feature South Africa’s Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit for the first time.
  • There is no word on an official release date just yet.

On Wednesday, Microsoft hosted a Developer_Direct showcase in which it highlighted a number of releases, including the next instalment of Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport.

Where Forza Horizon is generally an arcade racing game, Forza Motorsport is aimed at those who prefer a simulation experience. The game will feature 500 real-world cars that players will be able to race and customise.

“In addition to the number of cars, we have also made improvements to how they look by using a spectrophotometer, which captures multiple data points of light behavior on a surface. With this new sourcing technique, our paint models have a more realistic light response across colors, metal flake and gloss levels. Cars now have context-aware damage and dirt buildup that is authentic and unique to each vehicle, gathering more in the low-pressure areas like recesses and alcoves,” creative director of Forza Motorsport, Turn 10 Studios, Chris Esaki wrote in a blog post.

As for locations, there will be 20 environments featuring multiple track layouts for players to race through. In addition, there will also be five new locations including South Africa’s very own Kyalami.

The other tracks confirmed so far include:

  • Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
  • Hakone
  • Laguna Seca
  • Maple Valley
  • Silverstone Circuit
  • Suzuka Circuit

The game will also, for the first time, feature a dynamic time of day and weather system. This will, according to the developer, increase the heat of the track and your tyres on sunny days and create grip issues when rain hits the track.

That’s not where the realism ends though.

“Based on your feedback, we’ve introduced new features like tire and fuel management, multiple tire compounds, and new in-depth car building to create the ultimate racing playset. This is all brought to life at the trackside pits, where advanced materials and shaders paired with ray tracing bring out incredible detail in the gold heat wrap, anodized aluminum, and carbon fiber. Ray tracing especially shines on engine bays with their complex self-reflection,” adds Esaki.

As for a release date, all we have to go on is “later this year”. We’re incredibly excited to get our hands on a Forza Motorsport title after what has really been a long hiatus. Make no mistake, Forza Horizons is fantastic and received an easy recommendation from us when it launched in 2021.

Forza Motorsport will arrive on Xbox Series S and X as well as PC later this year.
