One more day: Matric Class of 2022 results to be announced on Thursday

  • The Matric Class of 2022 will learn how it performed during an event hosted by the Department of Education on Thursday.
  • Umalusi has this week approved the results for the NSC exams for 2022.
  • The Independent Education Board has today announced a pass rate of 98.42 percent.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has confirmed that it will released the National Senior Certificate examination results for 2022 on Thursday.

The results will be announced at a ceremony scheduled to be held at the Mosaik Church in Fairlands, Johannesburg. The event will see Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga host parents and learners for a congratulatory breakfast.

Later in the day, Director General Mathanzima Mweli will unpack the results in greater detail during a technical briefing.

“The Matric Class of 2022 has borne the brunt of COVID-19 in their critical years of Grade 10 and Grade 11. This class is the largest full-time cohort of candidates that sat for the National Senior Certificate Examinations,” the Department told SA News.

South Africans will be keen to see whether the NSC national pass rate can be improved upon from last year. The last two years in the pandemic have proved especially detrimental to the pass rate. In 2019 that figure sat at 81.3 percent before plummeting to 76.2 percent in 2020. The class of 2021 saw marginal improvements increasing the pass rate to 76.4 percent.

There is no word on how the Class of 2022 fared and we will have to wait for the results to be announced just like everybody else.

For those who are at independent schools, those results have seemingly already been announced. The Independent Education Board has announced a pass rate of 98.42 percent with 89.32 percent of those students being eligible to study a degree. according a report from EWN.

The body responsible for quality assurance in the NSC exams, Umalusi said this week that it had approved the results for the Class of 2022.

“Having studied all the evidence presented, the Executive Committee (EXCO) of Umalusi Council concluded that the examinations were administered largely in accordance with the Regulations Pertaining to the Conduct, Administration and Management of the National Senior Certificate Examination. The irregularities identified during the writing and marking of the examinations, were not systemic and therefore did not compromise the overall credibility and integrity of the November 2022 National Senior Certificate examinations administered by the Department of Basic Education (DBE). The
Executive Committee of Council therefore approves the release of the DBE November 2022 National Senior Certificate examinations results,” chairperson of the Umalusi Council, Yunus Ballim wrote in a statement.

While results are set to be announced on Thursday, learners are only able to collect their results from Friday 20th January. To that end, check out our simple guide on how to find your results online, via SMS and via USSD.
