Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion in development

  • From Software has revealed that an expansion for Elden Ring is in development.
  • Aside from a name – Shadow of the Erdtree – and some concept art, there is little more information.
  • There isn’t even a whisper of a release date yet.

This past weekend marked a year since Elden Ring launched and became widely hailed as one of the best video games ever made by From Software.

On the anniversary of the game’s release, fans were expecting news of DLC for the game, but were left empty handed when nothing arrived. However, this morning, we were given a gift.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is a forthcoming expansion for Elden Ring and that’s about all we know. We are given a piece of art in the tweet above ,but surely we couldn’t VaatiVidya that are we? Are we?

In the distance we see an Erdtree, unlike the one in the game, however, this tree is crooked and set within a mountain range, not a city. This Erdtree is also dark and missing it’s golden hue. However, we are still in the Lands Between as per the tweet. Could this expansion be set years after we are crowned Elden Lord?

Our thinking is further pushed along with the ruins scattered across the landscape, some resembling the archways that lead to the Great Towers scattered around the Erdtree in the base game.

We also see a figure atop Torrent which could be the player but this isn’t how the player character is portrayed in any other media from Elden Ring. We don’t want to spoil the end of the game – despite it being a year since release – but that could be the return of a major character who was consumed by another.

Truthfully, we could speculate all day, but we won’t.

When we can expect this expansion is unclear, but we’re now keeping a keen eye on news about it.

We’re just excited to jump into Elden Ring again in pursuit of a new story, new secrets and new weapons.
