First co-op gameplay footage for Kill the Justice League is not what we expected

  • Last night the latest PlayStation State of Play showcased the first gameplay footage from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
  • We get to see all four characters in action with four-person co-op gameplay.
  • There also appears to be a heavy focus on a battle royale-style experience.

PlayStation hosted its latest State of Play event last night, and true to its word, the big focus was on the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game, which is now slated for release on 26th June 2023.

We got quite a bit to look at and digest regarding the game, with a total of nearly 15 minutes of footage, six minutes of which showcased the four-person co-op gameplay available on the title. Here we see each member of this version of the Suicide Squad – Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark – taking on waves of Braniac’s bots.

We also get to see how each member’s weapons in action, as well as how they traverse the environment, with quite a bit of aerial action. In fact things look quite slick, which is to be expected from Rocksteady, but there is also some heavy influence from battle royale titles at work here.

As such, we cannot help but shake the feeling that the brief of Fortnite-style gameplay was hammered home for developers.

Ultimately, it is not what we were expecting for Kill the Justice League. In fact, it is hard not to think back to Gotham Knights, which also delivered a Batman-inspired game that many weren’t expecting (in a bad way).

Hopefully there will be more to Kill the Justice League than taking out waves of enemies, as was the case with Marvel’s Avengers game. Also, if we cannot kill any members of the Justice League in this game, we are going to riot.

There is still some time between now and its June release, so we will no doubt see more from this title before it officially releases across all platforms.
