Twitter will finally remember which tab you prefer in Android and iOS

  • Twitter has confirmed that the timeline view on mobile devices will default to whatever tab you had opened last.
  • This comes after the social media platform announced a similar update for the desktop version of the app.
  • It is the latest in a number of corrections that the app has had to make following hastily taking decisions by its owner.

Last month we reported on a fix made by Twitter as regards its For You algorithmic timeline. Unfortunately that tab is still with us, but those using the social media platform on desktop would at least be defaulted to the last viewed tab when using the application.

At the time, Twitter said the same fix was on its way for Android and iOS users, and now that time has come, with the Twitter Support account confirming the news.

“Update to the latest version of the app so that ‘For you’ and ‘Following’ will default to whichever tab you had open last,” the account noted.

As Engadget rightly points out, this is by no means a fix for a better overall experience on the app, but for those who wish to only see tweets from the accounts they follow, it is a small plus. The publication also highlights the fact that the additional of the algorithmic tab arrived near the same time that Twitter chose to cut off access for third-party apps too, some of which have had to shutter their business as a result.

With Twitter also announcing a change as far as how content creators can earn revenue on the platform, provided they sign up to Twitter Blue first, this will not be the last time that the company chooses to implement a new feature that alienates part of its community.

This, as we have learned, is what life is like at Twitter under its new owner.
