• Code “MAR10DAY” gets you 10 percent off most Mario products, with some exceptions

Much like Disney has Star Wars day on 4th May (“May the fourth [force] be with you”), Nintendo has Mario Day on 10th March, AKA MAR10 DAY.

This is a worldwide event but for local fans of Mario and his friends, there is a sale on the Nintendo Online Store South Africa.

Most Mario products sold on the store are discounted by 10 percent by using the code “MAR10DAY” at checkout.

There are, as with most promotions, exceptions that shoppers should take note of. Firstly the Nintendo Switch – Super Mario Odyssey bundle is not discounted. This bundle is exclusive to the Nintendo Online Store South Africa and contains a Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, red Joy-Con controllers, the Super Mario Bros. Movie stickers and a download code for Super Mario Odyssey.

It’s a shame that the 10 percent off code doesn’t work for this bundle, as it’s a great choice for those who haven’t bought a Switch yet. The OLED Model is the best version of the console and Odyssey is one of our all time favourite games, and a truly unmissable Switch-exclusive experience.

The second exception to the sale is already discounted items. Any products which is already reduced in some way will not have its price further reduced by the 10 percent off code.

So what is included in the Mario Day sale? The full list of items can be found here, but it is also broken up into these categories:

• Super Mario Games
• Super Mario Products (misc including toys, clothing and more)
• Super Mario Accessories
• Super Mario PEZ Dispensers (Mario, Luigi, Toad and Yoshi)

Despite the event focusing on Mario himself the sale extends to other characters from the Super Mario Bros. franchise, such as the superior brother Luigi.

Looking through what is available in the links above and one type of product you should pay attention to is the various controllers from Hori. These rarely go and sale and provide a great alterative way to play on the Switch. Items like the Mario Kart Racing Wheel Pro Deluxe and the Super Mario D-Pad Controller give you much better options in racing and fighting games respectively.
