VW’s new ID. 2all is an all-electric hatchback destined for Europe alone

  • Volkswagen has unveiled its latest all-electric hatchback – the ID. 2all.
  • Before you get interested in buying one, the EV is slated for release in Europe only on 2025.
  • Recommended pricing for the ID. 2all will be less than €25 000.

If you are a fan of Volkswagen or electric vehicles living outside of Europe, the latest announcement from the German carmaker is a bittersweet one. This as the company’s latest all-electric hatchback, the ID. 2all, has just been revealed, but is currently slated for release in Europe only in 2025.

Whether that changes between now and 2025 remains to be seen, but hopefully is not a sign of things to come, as VW also said that it plans to launch 10 all-electric vehicles by 2026.

Apart from the looks, what makes the ID. 2all an interesting prospect is its pricing, with VW noting that it is as spacious as a Golf, but priced similar to a Polo. To that end, it says recommended pricing will be less than €25 000 (~R486 530).

As such, it may serve as the EV that the company looks to reach as many people as possible.

“We are transforming the company rapidly and fundamentally – with the clear objective of making Volkswagen a genuine Love Brand. The ID. 2all shows where we want to take the brand. We want to be close to the customer and offer top technology in combination with fantastic design. We are implementing the transformation at pace to bring electric mobility to the masses,” adds Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars.

Other notable features on this EV hatchback include an electric drive motor with an output of 166kW. It also has a calculated driving range of up to 450 kilometres.

Looking at the aforementioned 10 EVs on the way by 2026, VW advised the following.

“The production version of the ID. 2all is one of ten new electric models that will be launched by Volkswagen by 2026. This year alone will see the introduction of the new ID.3, the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase and the ID.7,” it explained.

“This will be followed by a compact electric SUV in 2026 and, in spite of all the challenges, Volkswagen is also working on an electric car at a price of less than 20,000 euros. This will give the car manufacturer the widest range of electric vehicles compared with its competitors,” the carmaker concluded.
