Web3 a big focus at this week’s Blockchain Africa Conference

  • This week Johannesburg plays host to the 2023 Blockchain Africa Conference.
  • The event takes place in Sandton on 16th and 17th March, with tickets still available.
  • While it will play host to many crypto curious attendees, developments in Web3 will also be a focus for the event.

The 2023 edition of the annual Blockchain Africa Conference takes place this week, on 16th and 17th March specifically. The two-day long event, which has been up and running since 2015, will place an emphasis on the development of Web3 on the African continent.

“A Web3 wave comes to African shores this week and the continent is perfectly positioned to rise on this tide of innovation in ingenuity. The 9th annual Blockchain Africa Conference gathers together the brightest technology minds and captains of industry to help unlock the potential of blockchain to overcome the obstacles in the developing world,” explain organisers in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“This year the event welcomes back valuable in-person interaction following two years of the conference being held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic protocols. The conference has attracted over 9,000 attendees from 160 countries and helped frame the best in blockchain and cryptocurrency innovation and disruption from across the globe for the African context,” they add.

In recent months much focus has been placed on cryptocurrencies in South Africa, with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) declaring them financial products. Added to this is an continued interest in the metaverse, as well as Web3-based experiences.

As such, the conference looks set to touch on two elements that many businesses and industries are actively looking at.

“Companies are no longer asking ‘why’ but discussing how to’ use blockchain technology. The time for asking why this technology should be used is over, and the time to implement this technology in existing systems and build better systems and surf the wave is here,” the organisers continued.

For those interested in attending the two-day long event, the speakers that have been arranged, as well as the other topics of conversation, more information can be found here.
