How to get free Easter LEGO in South Africa

The long Easter weekend comes to an end today here in South Africa, but fans of LEGO can still take advantage of some free and discounted LEGO being offered as promotions for the season.

The biggest promotion runner for this is the LEGO Certified Stores who are giving away sets in two ways: one is a no-purchase required egg hunt for kids, while the other is a gift with purchase requiring a sizeable spend.

Today, 10th April, is the last day that kids can visit one of the five LEGO stores to partake in an egg hunt. The reward for the hunt is a polybag – a small LEGO set that comes in a soft plastic bag instead of a box, hence its name.

As a reminder a list of the LEGO stores in South Africa can be found here with two locations in Joburg (Sandton City and the Mall of Africa), on in Pretoria (Menlyn Park), one in Durban (Gateway) and one in Cape Town (Canal Walk).

The hunt gets a thumbs up from nephews and a niece that we sent to check out the event last week, all three of which walked away with some free LEGO for participating.

As for the other promotion being run by the LEGO stores, it is a gift with purchase (GWP). For a full explanation on the GWP and shopping for LEGO in South Africa, see our guide here.

Those who spend R1 500 on any LEGO sets at the five stores – or though the online store – are eligible for the set 40587: LEGO Easter Basket set. The promotion for this set lists its value at R379, but it should be noted that this set cannot be bought normally, and is only available as a GWP.

Outside of the LEGO stores we also found that the Kiddiwinks chain of stores is giving away a set as a gift too.

The polybag 30643: LEGO CREATOR Easter Chickens 30643 is available for all purchases over R350.

It’s worth mentioning that you can get some Easter LEGO not for free, but for a discount.

Import A Toy, which we mentioned as one of absolute favourite places to buy LEGO in South Africa, is selling Easter-themed poly bags at a discount.

Finally those looking for LEGO sets that are in the spirit of Easter, but are not explicitly Easter-branded, should consider some of the sets advertised by the LEGO store below.
