Kaspersky’s VPN now has a node in Shanghai

  • Kaspersky is rolling out several updates to its VPN product.
  • This includes support for the WireGuard Protocol.
  • Kaspersky VPN now features four additional locations including one in China and Russia.

For the last few months we’ve been testing Kaspersky Premium, the top tier consumer security solution from the firm. Part of the product includes a VPN and those who are making use of the product can expect a few new notable updates that are being rolled out.

The VPN has added four new locations added are:

  • Dhaka, Bangladesh,
  • Vaduz, Liechtenstein,
  • Novosibirsk, Russia,
  • Shanghai, China.

We’re not sure who will be needing that Chinese node, given the country’s highly restrictive internet laws but, the node is there if you need it.

In more exciting news, the update will also include the WireGuard protocol. This open-source VPN protocol has been implemented with the goal of providing greater product credibility through transparency.

This addition means that Kaspersky VPN now supports both the Catapult Hydra and WireGuard protocols and users can select which protocol they want to use in the VPN’s Settings menu.

All of these updates will surely help Kaspersky become an even more attractive choice for those shopping for a VPN. This firm’s solution was recently put up against several other solutions in a test performed by AV-TEST and it came out top of the pops.

“With its second-to-none showing in the majority of speed tests conducted, Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection is the overall fastest VPN product tested in the performance test. Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection came first in most tested categories. It showed outstanding download- and torrenting speeds in both local and overseas scenarios. In particular, the solution outruns other participants with a minimum of double their performances for overseas data-transmissions,” the body concluded.

What makes the Kaspersky VPN solution all the more attractive is the fact that if you take up a Premium security subscription, the VPN is included in the price. At R776 per year and the ability to secure up to five devices, the offer sure is attractive.

In our experience the VPN performs remarkably well and there have been more than a few times where the performance was so good we didn’t even notice we were connected to an international node.

Also as part of this update the software has its own dark mode if you want the VPN to be dark on your light themed desktop.
