As we near the end of May, this week’s africast throws things forward to June.
In it we unpack some of the movies, series, and games that are on our radar for June. The movie options in particular are strong for next month, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part 1) being the one film that we cannot wait to watch.
Added to this list is The Flash starring the problematic Ezra Miller, along with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and a couple of options landing on streaming platforms, such as Avatar: The Way of Water, season three of The Witcher, and Manifest. The last one is a series we’re happy to see come to an end.
Other picks include Street Fighter 6 on the gaming side of things, which is set to duke it out with the likes of Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI as the ruling title for the month.
We also discuss some of the biggest news stories of the week, which includes the City of Johannesburg’s plan to use smart meters to curb loadshedding by load-limiting its residents. It does not sound like much of a solution in our books.
In the news roundup too is the 12-minute gameplay that Insomniac Games revealed during this week’s PlayStation Showcase. We got to see a lot of action, quick time events, and the iconic black symbiote suit, ahead of a PS5-exclusive launch later this year.
The last bit of news takes the form of an interview with biometric technology startup iiDENTIFii and its thoughts on how biometrics could be used in future national elections. It will take a long time to make that a reality, but could prove helpful to many South Africans.
