Huawei says no two Rococo Pearl P60 Pro phones look the same

Earlier this week Huawei held an event for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region where a number of flagship devices were revealed, including the P60 Pro flagship phone. Along with being a highly specced piece of hardware, there is one additionally intriguing element on one of the models of P60 Pro – Rococo Pearl.

What makes this iteration so intriguing is a fairly significant claim by Huawei, as the company says no two Rococo Pearl P60 Pros look the same. The “Pearl Texture Design” as Huawei calls it is made to resemble mother of pearl, with the Rococo in the name a nod to the mid-1700s style.

“This exquisite smartphone adopts a unique Pearl Texture Design that makes it shine through like a timeless ornament, and gives a distinct pattern on each phone with its shimmering Rococo Pearl exterior, letting elegance utterly express every step of the way,” the company explains.

“The signature Rococo Pearl advocates romance and elegant style. Each piece is unique,” marketing material from Huawei adds.

While this could be written off as a gimmick, it does indeed look like each Rococo Pearl P60 Pro has a unique back cover.

We were on hand at the aforementioned MEA event, and each one of the phones on display did have a distinct pattern on the rear, with the shimmering mother of pearl-esque designs being akin to fingerprints or snowflakes.

Whether this is indeed a big enough draw for local smartphone fans remains to be seen, but when most flagship phone makers these days stick to a certain colour palette for devices, there is certainly something unique to the Rococo Pearl option.

It will be interesting to see if this technique is emulated in other phone models from Huawei down the line, or competitors.

The P series has a long history of setting trends in the design and colourway department, with these phones being among the first in the industry to introduce gradient colours for rear covers and iridescent options in later models, both of which have been mirrored by other phone makers.

As for how much the Huawei P60 Pro will cost when it lands locally, that is yet to be confirmed, with Huawei Mobile South Africa set to host an event later this month where those details are expected to be shared.
